China liberalized their China domain name (.cn) registration requirements such that anyone in the world may now register and own china domain names. This should be welcomed news for anyone wishing to step into the unprecedented opportunity presented by China's exploding internet population.
For quite a while now, analysts around the world predict China will be the new economic and political superpower of the 21st century. From what previously was a planned and state-controlled economy, has emerged something very close to a market-economy, in 20 years time.
Against the setting of this gigantic economic expansion, the development of the internet is happening at enormous speed. The country's internet users have doubled every 6 months, for the past 5 years.
2nd and 3rd level Chinese domains (.com.cn , .net.cn , .org.cn) are widely accepted and recognized by the Chinese population.
:: Record Number of .cn Domain Registrations ~ 01-30-2006
"China's Internet development leaped forward radically in 2005," said Mao Wei, head of the Chinese .CN domain Registry CNNIC.
Nearly 1.1 million .CN Chinese domain names had been registered in China by the end of 2005, soaring 154 percent over the previous year total amount of .CN China domain registrations. .CN China domain names have become the favorite of domestic Chinese users. The .CN domain name outnumbered any other domain in Asia and its ranking in the world has risen to the sixth from the 13th at the beginning of this year. The growth of CN China domains is 8.8 times faster than that of any other general domain (such as com)
CNNIC said that nearly 10,000 new Chinese domain names are registered each month. He added that 16 out of 17 new domain names registered in China last year were .cn domain names. According to CNNIC, there were two reasons for the record growth in .cn domain name registrations. He explained that the first reason was the improved Internet environment in China, which created a higher demand for domain names. The second reason according to CNNIC was that China domains (.cn) offered a wider choice since the number of available .com domains was running out.
China ranks the second in the world in terms of the number of netizens and those surfing on the Internet through broadband which is the main access to Internet for Chinese netizens. The Chinese mainland has the world third largest number of IP addresses. And Chinese netizens spend more than 100 billion yuan or US$12.5 billion on surfing on the Internet.

" *There are approximately 1.3 billion people living in China , a dynamic population with a culture of commerce. Three years ago China joined the World Trade Organization and trade barriers began to diminish. China's large consumer population and recent reforms provide expanded opportunities to sell products and services in the Chinese Markets. One of the key instruments to establish the contact to the consumers and manufacturers in China has been the Internet.
Foreign Companies, large and small, are pursuing new opportunities in China that have arisen from the country's entry into the WTO. This global economic event and the possibility for foreign entities to buy domains ending in .cn , .com.cn and so on has opened the door into China's Marketplace wider than ever before.
The Chinese economy continues to show incredible growth. Research shows an 8% growth rate over the past 3 years, and projects greater than a 10% growth rate over the next 3 years.
In 2003, China's economic growth hit a six-year high, adding 9.1% to gross domestic product. China's performance makes it the Fastest-Growing among the world's major economies, outpacing the US and far ahead of Japan .
China's Gross Domestic Product in 2004 is estimated at US$ 1.5 Trillion, according to the World Bank Group. China is now the second largest economy in the World, and is now ranked #2 in the World in terms of purchasing power.
Foreign manufacturers, business, and investment have poured into China to tap into the largest consumer market in the World. China's dedicated and skilled workforce is very inexpensive relative to labor costs worldwide.
The typical Chinese consumer now has the means to purchase the goods and services foreign companies offer. Chinese Retail Sales rose 9.1% in 2003, while disposable income rose 9.3% in urban areas and 4.3% in the countryside.
China is rapidly demonstrating significant demand for consumer and corporate technology products. According to the China Industry Update, it is projected by 2007 there will be over 500 million cell-phone users in China . The Internet and Personal Computers play a major role in the development of the economy, and in hundreds of millions of daily Chinese lives.
China's Internet Industry is booming. More than 22 million Chinese subscribed to Internet Access last year, bringing the total amount of Chinese on-line to over 80 million. That makes China second only to the US in Internet Subscribers, and conservative estimates project over 155 million Chinese on-line by 2006, easily overtaking the US . Incredible potential still exists in the internet-technology sector when China's total population is considered.
2nd and 3rd level .CN domains (.com.cn , .net.cn , .org.cn) are widely accepted and recognized by the Chinese population. Over 830,000 domains have already been registered.
The ever-expanding improvements in domestic infrastructure are demonstrated in China's National Trunk Highway System.
The Highway System highlights the potential for the oil and automobile market in China . According to a Reuters report, every living American, on average, consumes 25 barrels of oil each year. Every Chinese consumer uses, on average, 1 barrel of oil each year. Presently China is a society of bicycle commuters graduating to motor scooters for transportation needs. The automobile market is virtually untapped.
The Chinese consumer population is in dire need of Goods and Services the rest of the World has benefited from for decades. Coca-Cola is available throughout China but in some areas it is still delivered by mule. Personal Checks and Credit Cards are relatively non-existent for most of the population, reserved mainly for the wealthy.
Commerce is amazingly transacted with limited benefits of overnight shipping and few toll-free phone numbers.
Ten years ago, hundreds of millions of lower to middle-class Chinese consumers had the desire for goods, now they have the means to purchase goods and services. For example, an opening of a McDonald's in Guangdong set a world-record for customers in one day- 14,000. When a 7-11 Convenience Store opened, riot police were called in to control the thousands of customers. Proctor and Gamble's largest overseas market for shampoo is China .
The Chinese Government is now more dedicated than ever in developing its economy and improving Chinese Global Relations. For instance, there have been very recent improvements in China's relations with India .
Government officials are also actively promoting the Chinese Economy and Marketplace with China's 20/20 vision, the Government Plan for the quadrupling of China's Economy by year 2020.
The Chinese Government is becoming more and more "business friendly". China is presently changing its Constitution to embrace the most basic tenet of capitalism, protecting private property rights for the first time since 1949. These pro-business changes seek to bring China's legal framework more in line with its market-oriented ambitions by providing a Constitutional guarantee for entrepreneurs, foreign and domestic, pivotal in generating jobs and wealth.
The United States Trade Statistics with China ( China purchasing US goods and services) have increased tenfold since 1990. At present these numbers have not been affected by the dollar's recent declines because China fixes its currency against the US Dollar-giving China a substantial advantage over other US trading partners.
China is now the United States ' largest trade partner, more than twice as large as Japan , which is ranked second.
In 1979, when China emerged from the Mao years of rule, it had little modern industry and no domestic brands, thus China's First Economic Revolution began. Since joining the WTO just two years ago, China's Second Economic Revolution is in its very early stages. China's reform and opening of its markets is closely linked with the destiny of every Chinese citizen, and has greatly promoted the country's social and economic development. The potential offered in China is boundless. " *Source: b2binchina.com
